Kúpil som si slobodu – Dynastar Legend Mythic

Opäť som dlhší čas strávil vo Vysokých Tatrách. Priznám sa, že vždy porovnávam s Rakúskom. Tento rok musím povedať, že Tatry prekvapili. Spolu 3 dni lyžovania. Prvý deň padol výber na Štrbské Pleso – Solisko. Pozitívum je SKI BUS, ktorý premáva aj z centrálneho spodneho parkoviska každých 10min. Je bezplatný tak ako aj parkovanie.

Počasie nebolo ideálne, bolo dosť chladno a trochu snežilo. Ľudí bolo málo, ale aj tak som sa nedokázal zohriať lyžovaním. Na sedačke mi vždy bola zima. Čo takto vyrievaná lanovka, alebo aspoň bublina, keď sa Vám nechce zametať sneh zo sedačky (asi som rozmaznaný z Rakuska).

Druhý deň malo byť krásne počasie, takže Lomnické sedlo to istilo. To krásne počasie bolo aj tretí deň veď si pozrite foto. Úplná pasia. Hneď ráno som trošku blúdil. Zmenili príjazd ku kabínke, postavili nové sedačky a cele prostredie v Tatranskej Lomnici pri vlekoch je zmenené. Musím ale povedať, že je to urobené perfektne.

Kvalita snehu je v sedle perfektná. Po zoznámení (1 až 2 jazdy) sa so zjazdovkou som jazdil už len freeride. Aj keď na mojich lyžiach to bolo skôr take trápenie. Dynastar Contac 10 sú určené na zjazdovku. Už 2 rok šomrem, že si musím kúpiť freeride lyže. Túto sezónu ma čaká ešte Moltaler Gletscher a Hintertux. Takže po lyžovačke bol smer jasný, Starý Smokovec obchod Dynastar.

Strávil som tam vyše hodiny. Nakoniec som sa rozhodoval medzi Atomic setom a Dynastar Legend. Legendy boli novší model aj keď boli drahšie a oveľa krajšie. Navyše viazanie mi priamo v obchode nainštalovali a nastavili na moju lyžiarku, takže na ďalšie ráno som sa veľmi tešil. Dynastar Legend Mythic som krstil v Lomnickom Sedle. Urobil som 12 jázd, všetky iba v prašane. Veľmi ma to lákalo do Francúzkej Muldy, ale keďže som nemal parťáka radšej som to neriskoval. Rozdiel jazdy vo freeride s lyžami na to určenými a lyžami na zjazdovku je markatný. Je to oveľa viac roboty, ale je to výzva, sloboda, vlastné pocity, prašan, ticho a Váš dych. Niečo neuveritelné, keď som stál sám na hranici Francúzkej Muldy a podo mnou aspoň čiastočne nejazdení prašan. Vyslovene na prašane surfujete. Nádhera.

Záver, pekná 3 dňová zimná dovolenka na Slovensku.

PS: Nové freeride lyže chcem ísť otestovať aj na Chopok Juh. Kto sa pridá?

Všetko o IPv6

Naozaj dobre napísaná kniha o problematike IPv6. Knihu napísal Pavel Satrapa a vydalo združene CZ.NIC. Je naozaj škoda, že Slovenský správca domén SK-NIC podobné aktivity nerobí.
V knihe sa podrobne zoznámite so základnými vlastnosťami protokolu IPv6. Nájdete tam implementáciu a konfiguráciu na rôznych OS a platformách spolu s implementáciou a praktickým použitím.

Zaujal ma popis implementácie IPv6 v BIRDe čo je alternatíva k dobre známemu software routovaciemu enginu Quagga. BIRD je Český projekt, taktiež pod záštitou CZ.NICu.

Hotel Sebastian, riešenie bezpečnosti a nasadenie VoIP telefónie

Ešte pred vianočnými sviatkami 2011 som robil spolu s jedným kolegom komplexné riešenie IT pre Hotel Sebastian v Modre. Riešenie pozostávalo z dvoch častí:

1) networking a security (switch, segmentácia počítačovej LAN siete, firewall)
2) kompletné VoIP riešenie na kľúč (VoIP telefónna ústredňa a VoIP telefóny)

Samozrejme nešlo len o dodávku potrebných zariadení, ale aj o návrh riešenia, inštaláciu, konfiguráciu a implementáciu na kľúč s riadnym zaškolením personálu hotela.

Ako to začalo.

Bol som oslovený hotelom Sebastian aby som predložil ponuku na kompletné riešenie (našli ma na základe tohto blogu, čomu som veľmi rád). Dohodli sme sa na stretnutí priamo na mieste inštalácie. Po obhliadke a zistení požadovaného cieľového stavu som hneď na mieste ponúkol niekoľko variant možných riešení. Varianty boli samozrejme vysvetlené a zákazník sa na základe odporúčanie hneď rozhodol pre jednu z variant.

Pôvodný stav a východiská.

Stav IT v hotely bolo, očakávané a štandardné, ako vyzerá vo väčšine hotelov a reštauračných zariadení na Slovensku. WiFi hotspoty po hotely boli na jednej sieti (L2 segment) spolu s pokladňou a PC v kancelárii hotela. Pripojenie do internetu bolo riešenie cez DSL, kde na Linksys DSL WiFi routry nie je možné robiť žiadnu kontrolu, grafy a logy. Šikovnejší IT technik za takýchto podmienok, zistí ip adresáciu a za par minút ma oskenované porty na pokladni a počítačoch. Veľmi nebezpečné.

Telefónia bola riešená klasickou ISDN prípojkou, teda hotel mal telefóny a fax len v kancelárii a recepcii.

Požadovaný cieľový stav.
Hotel Sebastian najviac trápila telefónia. Primárnym cieľom bolo mať v každej hotelovej izbe telefón. Automaticky s primárnym cieľom sa objavili otázky o bezpečnosti, keďže je jednoduché vytiahnúť ethernet kábel z telefónu a zasunúť do počítača a hosť je na jednej sieti kde aj pokladňa, atď…. Prišla teda na rad debata o bezpečnosti, segmentácie LAN siete a poriadnom firewalle.

Riešenie.
Všetky IT riešenia závisia vo veľkej miere od kabeláže. V hotely Sebastian majú v každej izbe dve RJ45 zásuvky (ethernet porty). Jeden sa teda automaticky využil pre pripojenie VoIP telefónu. V každej izbe je teda VoIP telefón a hosť má možnosť sa pripojiť na internet cez WiFi, ktoré je dostupné na izbách a vo všetkých priestoroch hotela. Telefóny sa inštalovali aj do ďalších prevádzkových priestorov hotela. Dodaný systém VoIP telefónie má dostupné web rozhranie cez obyčajný internetový prehliadač, cez ktoré je možné na recepcii pri odhlasovaní hosťa zistiť koľko minút a teda aj peňazí prevolal.

Už na začiatku som spomenul segmentáciu LAN siete a bezpečnosť. V hotely sú tri segmenty siete:
1) VoIP telefónia
2) WiFi hot spoty (verejný internet pre hotelových hostí)
3) interná/privátna sieť hotela (pokladne, recepcia, kuchyňa,….)

Každý segment sieťe slúži na niečo iné a teda musí mať vlastné bezpečnostné pravidlá pre komunikáciu. Napr. zo segmentu VoIP telefónie nie je potrebný prístup do interentu, do internej siete hotela ani na WiFi hot spoty. Je to uzavretá sieť, kde prebieha komunikácia len medzi VoIP zariadeniami (VoIP telefóny a VoIP telefónna ústredňa). WiFi hot spoty zas potrebujú mať povolenú komunikáciu len do Internetu, ale už nie do internej siete alebo k VoIP telefónom.

Tieto pravidlá komunikácie jednotlivých segmentov siete zabezpečuje nový dodaný firewall pfSense. Každý segment LAN siete je pripojený k firewallu a tento je pripojený aj do internetu. Ovládanie firewallu je cez web rozhranie a je veľmi intuitívne a jednoduché. Aj zamestnanci hotela čo nie sú technici, si vedia pozrieť v prípade problémov vyťaženosť jednotlivých segmentov siete a zistiť ak nejaký hosť sťahuje napr. 4GB film cez hotelové WiFi a samozrejme následne riešiť situáciu.

- VoIP telefónna ústredňa Elastix 500
- pfSense 3F Firewall

Záver
Samotná inštalácia aj so zaškolením trvala 2 dni. Zamestnanci hotela a aj majitelia sú spokojný a ak sa chcete presvedčiť o kvalite riešenia, navštívte Hotel Sebastian. Hotel je naozaj krásny s výbornou reštauráciou a v peknom prostredí.

Crashing Google Wave Finds New Life in Open Source

O Google Wave som napísal, alebo vložil na tento blog už veľa článkov. Stále si myslím, že tento spôsob komunikácie má niečo do seba a má potenciál nahradiť mail. Preto aby sa tak stalo, ale musí byť splnená podmianka spätnej kompatibility s mail službou. Google tento projekt pochováva, ale ďalej bude žiť v open source komunite. Prvé wave servre už službu poskytujú a je možné si stiahnuť aj zdrojový kód a inštalovať vlastný server. Držím palce tejto myšlienke a technológií aby prerazila a posunula elektronickú komunikáciu ľudí zase o krôčik do predu.

Google recently announced it will shut down Google Wave, the company’s web app for real-time collaboration, in April 2012.

Google had previously all but abandoned Wave,ceasing new development over a year ago, but soon all traces of Wave will be removed from the web. Wave will become read-only in January 2012, meaning users will no longer be able to create new waves. After that Google Wave users have until April 30 to export their content before the service shuts down completely.

The official demise of Google Wave is part of alarger spring-cleaning effort that will also see Google shut down services like Google Friend Connect, Google Gears and Google Knol, among others. Despite the heavy hype that accompanied its launch, Google Wave, like Knol and other soon-to-close services, just never caught on with average users. As the Google blog blithely puts it, these services “haven’t had the impact [the company] hoped for.”

While Google claims that cutting the cruft like Wave will help it refocus its efforts on more popular Google services, that’s not much consolation for fans of the doomed Wave.

Fortunately for Wave fans, the code behind Google’s service has been turned over to the Apache Software Foundation for safe open source keeping. There’s even a service, “Wave in a Box,” which replicates the basic Google Wave experience.

Wave in a Box consists of two parts, a standalone wave server and a web client. The Wave in a Box web client looks a bit different than Google’s Wave user interface, but the same features are present. The Wave in a Box tools also have the distinct advantage of decentralization. Developers can run wave servers and host waves on their own hardware without Google being involved in any way.

If you’d like to take Wave in a Box for a spin, head over to the demo site and sign up for an account. While the user interface is considerably more bare bones than the Google version, the demo site is nevertheless usable and surprisingly snappy.

vmworld 2011 Copenhagen

Tento týždeň som sa objavil na asi najväčšej akcii ktorú som absolvoval už druhý krát VMworld 2011 Copenhagen. Po minuloročnom nadšení z tejto akcie som mal vysoké očakávania, ktoré sa aj naplnili.

Počasie nebolo na prechádzky takže 3 dni strávené na konferencii dali telu zabrať. Konečne trošku oddychujem, dobíjam baterky super hudbou z http://distrikt.podomatic.com a naháňam myšlienky/spomienky z predchádzajúcich pár dní.

Cesta do Kodane bola štandartná a na letisku sa nás zišlo aj chalanmi z Esetu vyše 10ks. Takže začiatok vynikajúci. Ubytovanie sme mali v STAY Apartments http://staycopenhagen.dk čo na prvý pohľad evokuje, že bývate v továrni, čistý minimalistický štýl, ktorý sa Kodaňou rozvýja do dokonalosti. Čisté okna od podlahy až po strop a od lavej steny po pravú Vás spája s prostredím okolo veľmi úzko, doslova máte pocit, že ste stále vonku. Foto na ich stránke sú priamo z izieb a naozaj to je také veľke, čisté, jednoduché, minimalistické a industriálne.

Hneď prvý večer sme boli v Nyhavn Copenhagen na večeri. Spali sme málo a ráno šialenstvo ešte len záčinalo. Tento rok bolo cez 7000 zaregistrovaných. Akcie takýchto rozmerov našinec nezažíva každý víkend. Organizácia opať na špičkovej úrovni, na pitie čo si človek len želá a jedlo hlavne zdravé, losos (ten sa v Dánsku váľa asi na každom kroku), krevety, no nešiel som sa toho dojesť.

Registrácia účastníkov bola perfektná, čakal som max. 4-5 min. Ranná kávička a už zvonil telefón, že treba niečo riešiť u zákazníka. Našťastie kolega Miro H. to zmákol na diaľku za hoďku a išli sme na prvé Hands-on Labs a prednášky. Tento rok som sa sústredil hlavne na storage oblasť. Vo vSphere 5 je dosť noviniek a zmien v tejto oblasti. Veľmi ma zaujali aj project Horizon, ThinApp a vFabric. Vyskúšal som si v laboch konkrétne nasadenia a mýslim, že toto je naozaj to čo dáva/bude dávať pridanú hodnotu Vašim/našim zákazníkom.

Inšpirácii a nápadov je strašne veľa, len aby sme to stihli vsetko odskúšať u nás v labe do budúceho roku. VMworld 2012 by sa mal konať v Barcelone, verím, že sa tam uvidime a porozprávame o skúsenostiach.

River Park Night Run 2011

Po Devíne som sa opäť tešil na River Park Night Run 2011. Cieľ som si nastavil pod 55min (9km), čo na základe nabehaných kilometrov asi zodpovedá. Bežalo sa mi perfektne, atmosféra na štarte perfektná a beh cez krásne vysvietenú Bratislavu má niečo do seba. Nemal som hodinky ani žiadne dróty, takže to bolo celé o pocite a vnútornom počúvaní samého seba.

Pri 4km som mal pocit, že idem strašne rýchlo a mal som obavu či budem vládať dobehnúť alebo aby ma nezačalo pichať v boku. Rýchlosť behu som dosť často menil. Prvý kilometer v tuneli do mierneho kopčeka, tiež tam bol DJ a dobrá hudba, ľudia kričali no jednoducho pecka. Potom hneď kopček dole po námesti SNP, tam som to trošku rozbehol a na Šafku som sa bál či som to neprepálil. Potom som už išiel len svoje tempo aj keď ma predbehlo strašne veľa ľudí, mal som pocit, že patrím už do inej triedy.

Posledný kilometer som vedel, že bude treba zašprintovať, ale začal som asi neskôr ako som mal. V cieli som videl riadny meraný čas 50:30 a vedel som, že ešte mínus nejaké sekundy dole z dôvodu zdržania na štarte. Neoficiálne výsledky hovoria 50:05 čistý čas. Takže plán som splnil, ale tých 6 sekúnd ma bude ešte dlho štvať. Mohlo to byť pod 50 minút, no čo už aspoň je cieľ na budúci rok. Už teraz sa teším.

Bicycle Of The Future Shifts Gears Via Brain Waves

You’re looking at the bike of the future, where you’ll control gear shifts with your mind. This design concept is now in the prototype stage, and from the looks of the video above, it’s well on its way to a high-end bike shop near you.

Cyclists will adore the bike’s multiple aerodynamic design features and carbon fiber construction, but the most astonishing thing about the bike is its ability to change gears using its rider’s brain waves.

Before riding while using its mind-reading capabilities, a cyclist needs to train the bike to read his mind. Its “thought sensitive” helmet picks up brain waves, which are transmitted to the bicycle’s brain-controlled electronic “neurotransmission. “

The cyclist acquaints brain with bike by practicing with an experimental iPhone app, moving a cube on its screen until the neural technology associates that thought with the neurotransmission. Once the link is made, all the cyclist has to do is think in that way and the bike’s gears will shift accordingly.

This is some serious magic. But it’s altogether possible – in fact, we’ve tested tech such as the XWave that lets you control objects on a screen with your brainwaves, and it actually works well.

Výstup na Ďumbier 7/2011

Každý rok máme s manželkou za cieľ aspoň jednu celodennú túru po Slovenských horách. Tento rok to vyšlo na najvyšiu horu Nízkych Tatier, Ďumbier. Priznám sa, že som väčšinu života strávil pár kilometrov od tohto krásavca, ale ešte som ho nepokoril.
Predpovede na termín výstupu neboli priaznivé, ale nakoniec bolo úžasné počasie bez obláčika, na parkovisku okolo 30 a na Ďumbieri okolo 16-20 stupňov a pofukoval fajn vetrík.

Pôvodnú trasu sme mali naplánovanú na Trangoška – chata M.R.Štefánika – Ďumbier a späť. Priznám sa, že aj mňa zaskočil výstup na chatu M.R.Štefánika. Posledná tretina šlapania je naozaj dosť strmá a človek oddychuje každých 8min. Silnejší si na polceste môžu zobrať na plece polmetrák dreva z prichystaného dreva na zimu pre chatu. Odmenou mu bude čaj na chate zadarmo.

Po dosiahnutí chaty M.R.Štefánika som myslel, že Zuzana to vzdá a po ½ hodine pôjdeme späť dole. 20min. na slniečku s krásnym výhľadom a kofolou bol ale dostatočný relax pre výstup na Ďumbier. Zo Štefáničky je to ďalšia 1 ½ hodina väčšinou po vrstevniciach, alebo len s miernym stúpaním na Ďumbier. Dvojkríž sme uvideli okolo 12:15, čo bol super medzičas. Štart z Trangošky sme mali o 9:00 ráno. Výhľad na sever aj na juh bol úžasný. Bolo vidno krásne Tatry a hádam aj Maďarsko. Ůžasná čistá obloha.

Cestou späť sme sa rozhodli pre zmenu trasy. Nakoniec sme sa rozhodli ísť z Ďumbiera priamo na Kosodrevinu, Srdiečko a Trangošku. Z Ďumbiera sme sa teda vrátili asi takú hodinku smerom na Štefáničku a na rázcestí na Krupovom sedle sme sa zvrtli na magistrálu Kosodrevina. Tam sme dorazili asi okolo tretej. Kapustnica s kofolou to istila zaslúžene. K autu sme sa po prudkom klesaní dostali okolo 16:15.

Musím povedať, že krásne strávený krásny deň. Ďakujem Zuzke, že ma k tomuto dokopala.

Whats new in VMware vSphere ESXi 5

Following up on yesterday’s announcement from VMware about vSphere 5 the next step towards building the cloud on VMware. I have gathered up some of the more important new and updated features on vSphere 5. There will be other posts written over the next weeks and months diving deeper into these features. But for now this will wet your appetite.

Convergence. vSphere 5.0 is the first vSphere release built exclusively on the vSphere ESXi 5.0 hypervisor architecture as the host platform. VMware will not include ESX hypervisor architecture-based releases in this vSphere release or later releases. The vSphere 5.0 management platform, vCenter Server 5.0, provides support for ESXi 5.0 hosts as well as ESX/ESXi 4.x and ESX/ESXi 3.5 hosts.
VMware vSphere Auto Deploy. Combining the features of host profiles, Image Builder, and PXE, VMware vSphere Auto Deploy simplifies the task of managing ESXi installation and upgrade for hundreds of machines. New hosts are automatically provisioned based on rules defined by the user. Rebuilding a server to a clean slate is as simple as a reboot. To move between ESXi versions, you update a rule using the Auto Deploy PowerCLI and perform a test compliance and repair operation.
Unified CLI Framework. An expanded and enhanced esxcli framework offers a rich set of consistent and extensible commands, including new commands to facilitate on-host troubleshooting and maintenance. The framework allows consistency of authentication, roles, and auditing, using the same methods as other management frameworks such as vCenter Server and PowerCLI. You can use the esxcli framework both remotely as part of vSphere CLI and locally on the ESXi Shell (formerly Tech Support Mode).
New Virtual machine capabilities. ESXi 5.0 introduces a new generation of virtual hardware with virtual machine hardware version 8, which includes the following new features:

o 32-way virtual SMP. ESXi 5.0 supports virtual machines with up to 32 virtual CPUs, which lets you run larger CPU-intensive workloads on the VMware ESXi platform.

o 1TB virtual machine RAM. You can assign up to 1TB of RAM to ESXi 5.0 virtual machines.

o Nonhardware accelerated 3D graphics for Windows Aero support. ESXi 5.0 supports 3D graphics to run Windows Aero and Basic 3D applications in virtual machines.

o USB 3.0 device support. ESXi 5.0 features support for USB 3.0 devices in virtual machines with Linux guest operating systems. USB 3.0 devices attached to the client computer running the vSphere Web Client or the vSphere Client can be connected to a virtual machine and accessed within it. USB 3.0 devices connected to the ESXi host are not supported at this time.

o UEFI virtual BIOS. Virtual machines running on ESXi 5.0 can boot from and use the Unified Extended Firmware Interface (UEFI).

Graphical User Interface to configure multicore virtual CPUs. You can now configure the number of virtual CPU cores per socket in the Virtual Machine Properties view in the vSphere Web Client and the vSphere client. Previously this feature was only configurable through advanced settings.
Client-connected USB devices. USB devices attached to the client computer running the vSphere Web Client or the vSphere Client can be connected to a virtual machine and accessed within it.
Smart card reader support for virtual machines. Smart card readers attached to the client computer running the vSphere Web Client or the vSphere Client can be connected to one or more virtual machines and accessed within them. The virtual machine remote console, available in the vSphere Web Client and the vSphere Client, supports connecting smart card readers to multiple virtual machines, which can then be used for smart card authentication to virtual machines.
Expanded support for VMware Tools versions. VMware Tools from vSphere 4.x is supported in virtual machines running on vSphere 5.0 hosts. Additionally, the version of VMware Tools supplied with vSphere 5.0 is also compatible with ESX/ESXi 4.x.
Apple Mac OS X Server guest operating system support. VMware vSphere 5.0 adds support for the Apple Mac OS X Server 10.6 (“Snow Leopard”) as a guest operating system. Support is restricted to Apple Xserve model Xserve3,1 systems. For additional information, see the vSphere 5.0 RC Release notes.
Host UEFI boot support.vSphere 5.0 supports booting ESXi hosts from the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). With UEFI you can boot systems from hard drives, CD-ROM drives, or USB media. Booting over the network requires the legacy BIOS firmware and is not available with UEFI.
Support for up to 512 virtual machines. vSphere 5.0 supports up to 512 virtual machines totaling a maximum of 2048 virtual CPUs per host.
Support for larger systems. vSphere 5.0 supports systems with up to 160 logical CPUs and up to 2TB RAM.
Improved SNMP support. vSphere 5.0 adds the capability to convert CIM indications to SNMP traps. Check with your hardware vendor to see whether their CIM provider supports this functionality. In addition, vSphere 5.0 now supports the Host Resources MIB (RFC 2790) and allows for finer control over the types of traps sent by the SNMP agent.
Storage DRS. This feature delivers the DRS benefits of resource aggregation, automated initial placement, and bottleneck avoidance to storage. You can group and manage similar datastores as a single load-balanced storage resource called a datastore cluster. Storage DRS makes VMDK placement and migration recommendations to avoid I/O and space utilization bottlenecks on the datastores in the cluster.
Policy-driven storage delivery. This solution allows you to have greater control and insight into characteristics of your storage resources. It also enables virtual machine storage provisioning to become independent of specific storage available in the environment. You can define virtual machine placement rules in terms of storage characteristics and monitor a virtual machine’s storage placement based on these administrator-defined rules. The solution delivers these benefits by taking advantage of the following items:

Storage

o Integrating with Storage APIs – Storage Awareness to deliver storage characterization supplied by storage vendors.

o Enabling the vSphere administrator to tag storage based on customer-specific descriptions.

o Using storage characterizations to create virtual machine placement rules in the form of storage profiles.

o Providing easy means to check a virtual machine’s compliance against these rules.

As a result, managing storage usage and choice in vSphere deployments has become more efficient and user-friendly.

VMFS5. VMFS5 is a new version of vSphere Virtual Machine File System that offers improved scalability and performance.
Accelerator. An accelerator has been delivered for specific use with View (VDI) workloads. With this option configured in ESXi, a read cache is constructed in memory that is optimized for recognizing, handling, and deduplicating VDI client images. The cache is managed from within the View Composer and delivers a significant reduction, as high as 90% by early estimates, in IOPS from each ESXi host to the storage platform holding client images. This reduction in IOPS enables large scaling of the number of clients in case multiple I/O storms, typical in large VDI deployments, occur.
iSCSI UI support. Usability improvements in this release include the ability to configure dependent hardware iSCSI and software iSCSI adapters along with the network configurations and port binding in a single dialog box using the vSphere Client. Full SDK access is also available for these configurations.
Storage I/O Control NFS support. vSphere 5.0 extends Storage I/O Control (SIOC) to provide cluster-wide I/O shares and limits for NFS datastores.
Storage APIs – Array Integration: Thin Provisioning. Offers an ability to reclaim blocks of a thin provisioned LUN on the array when a virtual disk is deleted.
Swap to SSD. vSphere 5.0 provides new forms of SSD handling and optimization. The VMkernel automatically recognizes and tags SSD devices that are local to ESXi or are on the network. In addition, the VMkernel scheduler is modified to allow ESXi swap to extend to local or network SSD devices, which enables memory overcommitment and minimizes performance impact.
2TB+ LUN support. vSphere 5.0 provides support for 2TB+ VMFS datastores.
Storage vMotion snapshot support. Allows Storage vMotion of a virtual machine in snapshot mode with associated snapshots. You can better manage storage capacity and performance by leveraging flexibility of migrating a virtual machine along with its snapshots to a different datastore.
Enhanced Network I/O Control. vSphere 5.0 builds on network I/O control to allow user-defined network resource pools, enabling multi-tenancy deployment, and to bridge virtual and physical infrastructure QoS with per resource pool 802.1 tagging.
vNetwork Distributed Switch Improvements. vSphere 5.0 provides improved visibility into virtual machine traffic through Netflow and enhances monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities through SPAN and LLDP.
ESXi Firewall. The ESXi 5.0 management interface is protected by a service-oriented and stateless firewall, which you can configure using the vSphere Client or at the command line with esxcli interfaces. A new firewall engine eliminates the use of iptables and rule sets define port rules for each service. For remote hosts, you can specify the IP addresses or range of IP addresses that are allowed to access each service.
Next-generation browser-based vSphere Client. A browser-based, fully-extensible, platform-independent implementation of the vSphere Client based on Adobe Flex. The vSphere 5.0 release includes both the new browser-based client and the Windows-based client available in prior releases. In this release, the browser-based client includes a subset of the functionality available in the Windows-based client, primarily related to inventory display and virtual machine deployment and configuration.
vCenter Server Appliance. A vCenter Server implementation running on a pre-configured Linux-based virtual appliance. This appliance significantly reduces the time required to deploy vCenter Server and associated services and provides a low-cost alternative to the traditional Windows-based vCenter Server.
Inventory Extensibility. VMware customers and partners can extend vCenter Server in multiple ways, including the inventory, graphical user interface, and agents. vCenter Server includes a manager to monitor the extensions. By deploying extensions created by VMware partners, you can use vCenter Server as a unified console to manage your virtualized datacenter.
Solution Installation and Management. The vCenter Solutions Manager provides a consistent interface to configure and monitor vCenter-integrated solutions developed by VMware and third parties. It provides a simpler installation, configuration, and monitoring interface for managing solutions. Using the new vSphere ESX Agent Manager, you can deploy, update, and monitor vSphere agents on ESXi hosts. vSphere agents inter-operate efficiently with other vSphere features such as maintenance mode and distributed power management.
Enhanced logging support. vSphere 5.0 adds several enhancements to system message logging. All log messages are now generated by syslog, and messages can now be logged on either local and/or one or more remote log servers. A given server can log messages from more than one host. Log messages can be remotely logged using either the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or TCP connections. The vSphere syslog listener is available as an optional plug-in to vCenter on Windows; in the vCenter Virtual Appliance (VCVA), logging is accomplished using the native syslog-ng facility. With vSphere 5.0, log messages from different sources can be configured to go into different logs for more convenience. Configuration of message logging can also be accomplished using ESXCLI in addition to the vSphere client.
Fault Domain Manager — VMware High Availability has been transformed into a cloud-optimized availability platform. With Fault Domain Manager, VMware HA is more reliable in operation, more scalable in its ability to protect virtual machines, and can provide better uptime than before. All hosts in the cluster can now be primary nodes while the cluster also uses shared storage as a channel for host heartbeat detection. This enables VMware HA to react accurately and efficiently to host failures, allowing customers to grow their vSphere cluster.

Nedávno som začal svoj najdlhší a najdrahší projekt v živote. Založil som si firmu. Samozrejme firma si vyžaduje účtovníctvo. Na trhu je mnoho programov za pár euro, ktoré Vám určite dobre poslúžia.
